March 22 – 23

Join CCPA Opera in a riveting journey through the dark side of human desire. Poppea, a seductive and ambitious courtesan, conspires with her lover, the Emperor Nero, to ascend to the throne, plotting against Nero’s wife, Ottavia, and other political and romantic rivals.

Against a backdrop of political intrigue and moral corruption, the drama unfolds with fiery confrontations, manipulative schemes, and passionate duets, culminating in Poppea’s coronotion as Empress. Giancarlo Monteverdi’s seventeenth-century masterpiece is a thrilling tale of ambition, love, betrayal, and the quest for power that still resonates today.
